Lorenzo Fernández-Ordóñez Hernández, Madrid, 1964, High School Graduate (Wakefield, Rhode Island, USA), obtained his architectural degree from the ETSAM (School of Architecture of Madrid), Technical University of Madrid, in 1992. He received the Roma Award in 1993-1994 (Grant holder in the Spanish Academy of History, Archaeology and Fine Arts in Rome). He has taught Landscape and Urbanism at the School of Architecture in Alicante (2000-2003), and at the moment he teaches Construction (forth year) in the School of Arts and Architecture in the European University of Madrid, U.E.M. (since year 2005-2006).


His projects have been selected for various exhibits, among which stand out the I Exhibition of Environmental-Bioclimatic / Ecological / Sustainable Architecture, the I European Biennial of Landscape, the VIII Exhibition of Young Spanish Architects, the VIII Biennial of Spanish Architecture, as well as the IV European Biennial of Landscape.


Among his urban and landscape projects stand out the Bierzo’s University Campus, in Ponferrada (Triennial COAL’s Urbanism, Landscape and Urban Design Awards, 2004; Urban Design and Landscape Award in the 5th celebration of Castilla y León’s Architecture Awards, 2004; selected for the IV European Biennial of Landscape, 2006), his draft for the Special Plan Rivera de Gata (selected by the Spanish committee HABITAT to represent Spain in the Third United Nations “Good Practice” of Urbanism International Competition, 1999-2000, and the Extension to Moraleja’s Cemetery, Cáceres (chosen by the Camuñas Foundation for the VIII Exhibition of Young Spanish Architects, 2004; for the VIII Biennial of Spanish Architecture, 2005; as well as for the IV European Biennial of Landscape, 2006).


He has collaborated for a few years with his father, José A. Fernández-Ordóñez, with important projects involving interventions in nature and large areas, related to urbanism and civil engineering. Among those projects stand out the Eduardo Chillida Project for Tindaya Mountain, of which he is the Managing Director (view www.tindaya-chillida.com), the restoration of “Caminito del Rey” in Málaga (selected for the I European Biennial of Landscape, 1999), and the Pedestrian Walkway opposite the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (selected for the IV European Biennial of Landscape, 2006).


Since 2000 he manages his own studio from which he has developed projects such as the Documentation Centre for XX Century Spanish Poetry, which belongs to the Gerardo Diego Foundation in Santander; the Rambla Park in Cartagena, single award in a national competition, 1999; the proposal for Altavista, along with the sculptor Martín Chirino and the extension to Las Canteras Promenade, both in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; the Bioclimatic Offices Building for EREN (Regional Body of Energy of Castilla y León), first prize in a national competition, 1998, Prize in the I celebration of Castilla y Leon´s Sustainable Architecture Awards (2006).; and the Classrooms Building in the Ponferrada Campus, also first prize in a national competition, 1999. Recently he has received the third prize in the ideas competition for the design of the urban front line in the coast of the city of Algeciras, 2004; as well as a prize in the ideas competition for Jiloca’s headquarters, 2004.
